The Blue Light Card was formed in 2008 and began by offering internet discounts via its website.  The discount scheme was originally create to provide NHS discounts though this was quickly extended to provide discounts for the Emergency Services and NHS.  This savings scheme offers NHSdiscounts, Police Service discounts, Fire Service discounts, Coastguard staff discounts, St. Johns Ambulance staff discounts, Royal National Lifeboat workers discounts and Ambulance Service discounts online for free.  This account now runs alongside our Emergency Service and NHS cashback service and our High Street Card discount service.

In 2009 the High Street Card was released by Blue Light Card to provide Emergency Service and NHS discounts on the high street.  The High Street Card is a unique service, not seen before by other NHS discount schemes, and was create to give Emergency Service and NHS discounts directly in stores, so that it can be integrated into normal everyday life. 

The High Street Card intends to stop discrimination of discounts between NHS staff and Emergency Service staff and allowed all NHS staff to receive a discount; be it a NHS nurse, NHS janitor, NHS surgeon or a NHS admin worker.  Any role in the NHS and Emergency Services is vital and we want to reward those in the NHS and Emergency Services.  The Blue Light Card high street account provides a physical discount card that NHS workers and Emergency Service staff can take to high street stores to obtain discounts.  Many NHS staff have talked about a mystery Gold Card – The Blue Light Card discount card filled this gap for the NHS.

Blockbuster Entertainment became the official sponsor of the Blue Light Card Emergency Service and NHS discounts scheme in July 2009.  An Emergency Service and NHS discounts service has never had a sponsorship like this and allows each high street card discount card member to receive 10 free movie at http://www.blockbuster.co.uk Blue Light Card is proud to bring this extra discount to the NHS and Emergency Services.

In November 2009 the Blue Light Card launched its Emergency Service and NHS discount cashback service, offering members cashback on their purchases at hundreds of top online retailers.  This has added hundereds of new discount options to Emergency Service and NHS workers.
