Red, White and Blue Light Card

Red, White and Blue Light Card

After 70 years of serving the UK and wider Commonwealth, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, will next week become the first ever British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.

As people across the United Kingdom celebrate the historic milestone over an extended bank holiday - lasting from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June; we know that many of our members will likely be primed for the increase in pressure on their workloads – particularly within the emergency services.

While some of us may have the weekend off to relax, at least a third of those polled (32% in fact) are set to work as normal (or are on call), so we asked you (working or not) what your plans are:

For some of you, it’s ‘Business as usual’

With the general public being given extended time to relax in the sun, we know some of our members are being asked to forego their time off to help keep everyone safe, healthy and protected during the celebrations.

We appreciate you – especially Jim (Police) who is guarding the skies during his night shifts on both 2nd & 3rd June from 7pm to 7am... Sorry Jim!

Some are taking a well-deserved trip away!

You work hard all year round so it’s no surprise that many are making use of their time off (or strategically booked annual leave) to take a much-needed break as they head off on a UK break or day trip.

“I took advantage of the Parkdean Resorts Blue Light Card discount and have booked the Jubilee weekend away to spend time with the family by the seaside!”, says Danni (NHS) while Sarah (also NHS) has won tickets to attend the Platinum Jubilee Pageant taking place outside Buckingham Palace.

“I’ll be taking my eldest who has SEN additional needs with me,’ says Sarah, ‘while my other half and youngest son will be enjoying the London Merlin attractions (brought using our Blue Light Card discount), then we are going glamping in Chessington!

“Before the weekend, we’re enjoying some family time and are looking at a trip to the National Space Centre and Retro Computer Museum in Leicester on our way down to London from Sheffield.”

Food, friends and fun

There are plenty of ways to have fun closer to home however, and with everyone in the mood for a party, people are taking to the streets to celebrate! Tens of thousands of street parties are expected to take place across the country, and we’re delighted that so many of you appear to be well in the spirit of the occasion!

“I’ve booked annual leave the weekend of the Jubilee and we’ve been invited to join a street party that is taking place. My work is also holding a jubilee street party for residents and is all decorated ready for the event.”, says Sarah, who works in Social Care, while Lionie (also Social Care) has told us that her children “want to decorate the garden with flags etc., and have a BBQ so that’s what they’re doing ready for when I come home from work.”

Take the stress out of planning and save money on BBQs and party essentials with Blue Light Card! Or, if you just need to save when stocking up on nibbly bits, why not be inspired by our recent BBQ  blog?
