This month, we hit a big milestone. We reached six million members across our three key worker communities: Blue Light Card UK, Blue Light Card Australia and the Defence Discount Service.
That number is made up of doctors, nurses, firefighters, police officers, armed forces, social workers, teachers, prison officers, veterans and so many more frontline workers we couldn’t do without.
Our goal at Blue Light Card is to say thank you for everything you do – whether that’s with a discounted cinema trip, savings on your well-earned holiday or a bargain on your broadband.
We’re proud to be able to offer six million of you discounts and offers at thousands of top retailers, so we thought we'd celebrate by sharing some of your favourite BLC moments!
We’d love to spotlight all six million of you, but in the interest of time, we’ll settle for six stories for now. We asked our members what they love about their Blue Light Card, and what their best savings have been. Here’s what they said.
Becky booked a holiday to Disneyland Paris with her Blue Light Card discount. “I’ll never forget, I was on the phone doing the booking and my little’un came in, three at the time. I pretended I was on the phone to a Disney princess. The lady on the phone went along with it and spoke to my daughter, saying she couldn’t wait to meet her – that was priceless.”
Theo* shared the biggest saving he’s ever made with his Blue Light Card: £495 in one go. “I was diagnosed with 48% deafness and told I needed hearing aids, and they weren’t cheap,” he said. “I bought them at Boots and to my delight they accepted Blue Light Card – plus I got the Boots Advantage points back to spend, so it was a win-win situation. I ended up putting the discounted amount towards a nice mid-week break away.”
Julie told us that if you add up all the little savings she’s made with Blue Light Card over the years, it’d be an impressive number. She uses her card for holidays and airport parking, buying household appliances and the occasional theme park ticket. “I tend to check the Blue Light Card website for discounts before I buy anything now – I do like a bargain!”
Andy thinks he must have saved over £400 in total over the past few years with Blue Light Card. “Not all shopping for me, I think it’s worth saying,” he adds. “I’m on my third Blue Light Card now, my wife is on her second, and my daughter’s just got one as well!” We love to see a family of frontline workers making the most of our discounts.
Jackie says she loves that she only pays £5 every two years for her card, because she gets back “at least 100 times that” in savings. Her favourite way to save? Spoiling her grandchildren with discounted presents.
Philip tells us, “I was fortunate enough to save over £4000 on the cost of a new car. I encourage my colleagues to make sure they have a Blue Light Card, and that they remember to use it.”
