Two years flies by. One day you’re signing up, the next your renewal reminder lands in your inbox and you find yourself wondering: is your Blue Light Card still worth it?
Now, we might be biased, but the short answer is yes. And we’ll let the numbers – and the people behind them – do all the talking.
Your Blue Light Card costs £4.99 for two years. Most members make that back on their first use and what happens after that is bonus savings! Here’s what our members have been saving – across everyday spend, big purchases, days out and a few moments that caught them completely off guard.
Some of the biggest wins come from places members don’t always think to check first. Cars, for instance.
Steve, a retired firefighter, saved almost £7,000 on a new car through Motorfinity using Blue Light Card. Norman, an NHS worker, went one better:
“Last December I bought a Cupra Born electric car through Motorfinity. The discount was a genuine and amazing £11,000.”
Jo, a teacher, got just under £9,000 off a new car. Jane, a retired teacher, saved £3,500 on a new Skoda:
“The first thing I do is check if a retailer supports Blue Light Card. I always ask about it, then save.”
These aren’t flukes. They’re what happens when you remember to check before you buy. Something to keep in mind the next time you’re in a car showroom trying to look unbothered while doing rapid mental maths. Have a look at Blue Light Card motoring discounts, so you can drive away with a saving.

Big-ticket savings get the headlines, but it’s the regular, quiet ones that really stack up over two years.
Leslie, who works for the NHS, put it simply:
“For little discounts on expensive treats like Starbucks – 10, 20% makes it a bit different. If you could save 10 or 20p on a coffee that you normally get, over a year that saves a lot of money.”
Mike, a retired police officer, uses Shopping Cards for the weekly food shop:
"I've regularly been in the supermarket doing the weekly shop and thought, that's about 150 quid's worth in the trolley. So I go on the Blue Light Card app right there in the shop and get a £150 voucher. At the till, you're then saving £6 immediately. Over the course of a month, that's about £25 saved, which is quite a significant saving in the end."
If Mike did this every week, that 4% off would add up to £312 saved. That’s equivalent to getting another two weekly shops for free every year. Paul, who works for the NHS, does the same at Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda.
And it’s not just the small stuff. Lorraine, who also works for the NHS, used Shopping Cards for B&Q and Currys and saved over £300 fitting out her kitchen. Sharron, who works in the education sector, bought a new boiler and saved hundreds in one go.

This one comes up again and again. Not just saving money on things members were already doing – but doing things they wouldn’t have done at all.
Heather, a GP, summed it up after a Member Day:
“For me, it probably makes things more accessible that you didn’t think were. Things come up and you think, oh actually yeah, we can go... it’s not going to blow our budget.”
Jason, a foster carer, used his card for Merlin season passes and estimates he saved around £500 last year:
“Blue Light Card helps give foster children outings and activities which they possibly might not otherwise have been able to do.”
Claire, who works in early years, noticed it most with her family:
“It’s purely because it’s given us the opportunity to do things that we wouldn’t normally do. I always say that it just saves little and often all the time.”
A big part of that is our Member Days. Blue Light Card books out an entire attraction – Thorpe Park, Legoland, Warwick Castle and so many more – and hand it over to our members for the day. No general public, reduced ticket prices, free parking, face painting and exclusive in-park discounts.
And then there are the ticket drops. Every so often, we give experiences away for free – past giveaways have included Oasis, Coldplay and England games at Wembley. You enter the ballot, and if you’re picked, the tickets are yours.

There’s a particular kind of satisfaction that comes from using your Blue Light Card somewhere you didn’t realise it worked.
Claire, a foster carer, described the feeling well:
“I love walking into a shop and seeing they take Blue Light Card. It’s like a little treat.”
Samantha, a St John’s Ambulance volunteer, was delighted to find a Shark deal: 20% off plus a free mop. Sarah, a teaching partner, got £300 off a Disney Cruise:
“We had been looking at doing a cruise for ages and then realising we could get money off was amazing.”
Paula, a Macmillan welfare benefits adviser, bought a fridge-freezer for £300 instead of £600 – with free delivery on top. Check out Blue Light Card home and garden offers.

Whether it’s a Friday night takeaway, a cinema trip or a meal out that turned into a proper occasion, food and drink discounts are where a lot of members feel the difference most.
Sarah, a teaching partner in an academy, got 20% off Bill’s:
“Even today I popped out for lunch with a friend and used my card.”
Tobi, a senior practitioner in the NHS, rates the discounts at Nando’s, Rosa’s Thai, Wagamama and Wahaca. Olivia, who also works for the NHS, saved £40 at Bella Italia on a Friday night with her family. Discounts will soon add up when there’s six of you ordering a dessert.
Kathryn, a retired medical secretary, got into the habit of checking for Blue Light Card discounts after a tough year supporting her mum through surgery for a replacement elbow. On the day her mum was discharged, they went out for lunch to celebrate at Hungry Horse and saved 15% on the bill:
“There is always a choice of eateries and a definite way to save. It was a real pick-me-up for my mum – and she was discharged that day too, so a nice way to end the day.”
And for cinema lovers, the savings are consistent. Jason, who works in social care, reckons his family save around £10 per trip and go at least once a month:
“Lots of quality memories shared with the kids watching movies we love.”
NHS worker, Scott, has saved close to £100 just by defaulting to his Blue Light Card for group cinema bookings. Want to get in on the action? Take a look at our cinema offers.
Savings aside, a few members mentioned something else: feeling like their job is actually seen.
Kim, a teacher, put it in a way that stuck with us:
“I’m proud of being a teacher. So me being able to present my Blue Light Card is also me being proud of who I am and what I do.”
Sophia, a teacher, hadn’t expected to qualify for Blue Light Card until the pandemic changed how people thought about what teachers actually do:
“This one makes me feel proud because the roles are caring and protecting the future.”
Carrena, who works in care, put it plainly:
“I love being a Blue Light Card member because I feel part of a community in an organisation that cares and values the work I do for others.”
That’s what Blue Light Card is, at its core. More than a discount – a massive thank you. For the shifts, the calls, the classrooms, the care and every single minute you put into serving your community.
Anika, a teacher, said it as clearly as anyone:
“Even if I use it once, I’ve still made my money back on what I’ve paid for it.”
Jonathan, a clinical nurse, put some numbers around it:
“It’s only £4.99 for two years but can save you hundreds. It saves me money on items I’d buy anyway.”
And Nicola, a teacher, after a Member Day with her daughter:
“It’s an absolute no-brainer. It’s an absolute must for all families and who wouldn’t want to save money?”
